Proposed mechanism to the synthesis of benzofuran heterocycles 121 by utilizing an interrupted Pummerer reaction. Much more research is necessary to learn if psilocybin is addictive and whether or not behavioral therapies can be employed to deal with addiction to this or other hallucinogens.
